After reading another bloggers post about making your own art, I got inspired to pull the blank canvas out of the closet. (The ugly Christmas tree will have to wait for another day.)
One of the things my husband and I love the most is being in the outdoors, and our house reflects that. Our colors are typically browns and blues with splashes of dark red and greens. So with that in mind, I decided to try to create something with nature in mind. I have several cans of spray paint left over from a variety of projects. Specifically, I love the golden bronze Rustoleum Metallic finish.
I started by spraying the canvas with an off-white color. I wanted to soften the contrast between the stark white canvas, and the bronze metallic spray paint. I then went outside and cut a few limbs off our cherry tree.
This is what it looked like after I sprayed the limbs. NOT GOOD.
So I decided to try something different. I sprayed the entire canvas with the bronze color, and went outside a cut down a weed. Yep, you read that right. A weed. With huge leaves. We have lots of those in our back yard. ;)
I then sprayed the leaves with the off white color, only it went on way too thick. Ahhh! So I added yet another layer of the bronze color on top.
While its not anywhere near perfect, its not bad for a first attempt. And the plus side is when I get tired of it, I can simply paint over it again! Not bad for another left over project. The canvas originally cost $10 for a set of two. The paint was left over, and the weed was free. All in all, this cost about $5.
I think it looks better on our blue wall, but I feel like it's missing something. Another color possibly? Have any suggestions?
Have a great day projecting!
